LAST CALL
Listen, I don’t know
how much time we have left
so I’ll make this quick:
Let’s hop on the last train to Oviedo
or, okay, a plane, if that’s faster
(although trains are infinitely more romantic)
We’ll order champagne at breakfast-time
in the dining car and
get off before our stop.
Brussels? Milan? Wherever you’d like
As long as there’s a plaza where we can dance with the locals
and make fools of ourselves, just a couple of strangers
nobody will remember
A street lamp we can kiss underneath
A couple of seats by the bar at peak hours
There are two words in Spanish
that mean “to know”
Saber, conocer
(of the mind) (of the heart)
Estoy feliz de conocerte
and I guess what I mean,
what I’m trying to say, is —
that I am so very glad
to know you with my heart
for however long this lasts
Until the plane takes off the runway
Until the last train leaves the station
To walk down the street with your hand in my hand
as the shops shutter closed for the night
That’s all I’ll ever ask
I promise I’ll be good
for the rest of my life
Love this ❤️
